LESSON 6

LEADERSHIP STYLE

We will notice in the next lesson that there are basically three leadership styles that can be adopted.
They are:
A Directive Style
A Democratic Style
A Participative Style

Some leadership scholars have subdivided these three styles into another nine styles, dividing each of the three into another three.

Jean Lipman Blumen in her work, The Connective Edge, 1998, has slightly different titles fort the three main styles as follows:

A Directive Style
A Democratic Style
A Participative Style
Directive
Relational
Instrumental

We present below Lipman-Blumen's concept as an illustration of the many leadership styles that are available to the leader and should be used in different situations (remember Blanchard's Situational Leadership concept.)

In following lessons we will discuss the three basic leadership styles and then demonstrate how they impact Church Leadership and Life.
