| THREE POSSIBLE MODELS OF
CHURCH LEADERSHIP In this lesson we will examine three possible models of church leadership. The first would not be encouraged for it demonstrates a Corporate Control Model. The second demonstrates a Democratic Participative Model found in many churches without elders. The third demonstrates a Participative Body Model which would be the ideal. We have already examined these models under Leadership Philosophy as they relate to secular or corporate models. ![]() We find this model in an Authoritarian Autocratic Control model which manifests Management rather than Leadership. This model results in apathy and a "we-they" mentality in a congregation. ![]() We find this Democratic Participative model in congregations that function without elders. There is an element of this model in every Participative model of leadership. ![]() This Participative Body Model is found in churches that are fully participative and empowering. Each member understand their functions and parameters of action. There is much values congruence in this model. Every member understands the purpose of the congregation and the "rules" or norms by which it functions. |
